A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has encouraged former gubernatorial aspirant in Ogun State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Otunba Segun Showunmi to pitch his tent with the ruling party.

The chieftain who presently would not want his name mentioned in the print, but wields so much power and influence in the party at the national level said Otunba Showunmi has the exceptional requisite and potential to be in the progressives’ fold by making public declaration and self-registering himself as member of APC, stressing that the party is big enough to have him achieve his dreams without regrets.

While extolling the virtues of the former spokesperson of former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, he noted that the ruling party further needs an experienced, vibrant, visionary, courageous, ingenious, articulate and faithful politician like Showunmi in attaining more political and democratic feats.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Friday, he called on the leadership of APC at the state and national level to embrace Showunmi, maintaining that his (Showunmi) accommodation to the party would draw support for the party at all levels even as he described him as a grassroot politician who is dogged and unrepentant in achieving success.

“Democracy is a dynamic system of government by the people and for the people. The fundamental basis of this system of government is hinged upon the fact that every citizen above a stipulated age as might be provided by the constitution of such country is qualified to join or register as a member of any political party of his/ her choice at will. As a matter of fact, the likely defection of Otunba Segun Showunmi and his numerous followers with youthful energy from the PDP to the APC will be heartily welcomed.”

“Showunmi’s political sagacity and dexterity cannot be underestimated in the Nigeria’s political map, especially with the calibre of important personalities with which he will be joining the APC, and of course our party has penchant for harvesting experienced, vibrant, visionary, courageous, ingenious, articulate and faithful politician to our progressives’ fold, the likes of Showunmi will definitely contribute greatly in making our party attain more political and democratic feats,” he explained.
