Como Closing in on Deal to Bring Goalkeeper Back to Italy

Former Roma goalkeeper Pau Lopez is close to returning to Italian soil, with Como and Marseille negotiating his loan switch to Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. As per Gianluca Di Marzio, only the final details are missing before the Serie A newcomers announce the 29-year-old’s arrival. Como will reportedly sign Lopez on loan with an option to buy. Though Marseille forked out around €12 million to make the Spaniard’s loan move from Roma permanent in 2022, they’ll only earn half that figure from this deal. Lopez wore the Roma jersey for two years between 2019 and 2021 before departing for the Stade Velodrome. Despite being Marseille’s first-choice keeper over the past two years, the French giants have agreed to ship him back to Italy, with Como awaiting his arrival with open arms. While working on an ambitious plan to sign Inter whizz-kid Valentin Carboni , Marseille are sorting out the outgoings. Lopez’s switch to Como could be one of many after Roberto De Zerbi’s men failed to secure Champions League qualification last term. Meanwhile, Lopez isn’t the only star linked with Como. After capturing the services of Andrea Belotti and Gabriel Strefezza, they’ve embarked on an audacious mission to lure ex- Manchester United center-back Raphael Varane to Italy. It’s part of the club’s plan to assemble a squad capable of handling the upcoming challenges in Serie A. Como earned top-flight promotion as Serie B runners-up. They’re keen to follow in the footsteps of Monza and secure a regular seat at the top table.
