apexlifehub.com 1 day ago

Students from Madison County Schools had the opportunity to explore various healthcare professions as part of Baptist Health Richmond's 100 Days of Service program. Healthcare Career Exploration: A group of ten students participated in a week-long camp at Baptist Health Richmond, where they received hands-on experiences from clinicians including registered nurses, physicians, pharmacists, clinical dietitians, and educators. Opening Doors to Healthcare: Judy Ponder, DNP, highlighted the goal of the program, stating, "The goal is to open their eyes to the possibility of working in a healthcare setting one day – whether it's a hospital, physician office, or outpatient center." The students were exposed to a wide range of healthcare fields and had the opportunity to witness nursing care delivery using simulation. Building a Healthcare Workforce: The camp also included activities such as learning how to perform hands-only CPR and observing medication compounding with a pharmacist. Eastern Kentucky University and Bluegrass Community & Technical College provided additional exposure to healthcare professions. Baptist Health's commitment to training and recruiting personnel was demonstrated through these immersive learning experiences. Legacy of Education: With a strong legacy of education, Baptist Health has been actively involved in nursing programs at various collegiate institutions, including Eastern Kentucky University and Berea College. The organization's focus on strengthening access to care aligns with community health needs identified by Baptist Health Hardin, Baptist Health Paducah, and Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville. Centennial Celebrations: As Baptist Health approaches its 100th anniversary in 2024, various initiatives have been launched to give back to the communities it serves. The organization's history dates back to the opening of the original Kentucky Baptist Hospital in Louisville in 1924, which has since grown to include nine hospitals and over 2,700 licensed beds, reaching a significant portion of Kentucky residents and southern Indiana. The commitment to education and community health remains at the core of Baptist Health's mission, as exemplified by the recent healthcare career exploration program at Baptist Health Richmond.
