These Sleep Earbuds Changed the Way I Sleep
Some people like watching a movie in bed before going to sleep or listening to soothing sounds to drift off to dreamland. But if you sleep beside your partner or share the room with your siblings or other people, doing so could distract them.
A pair of earbuds will prevent disturbing others, but they are often not comfortable to use in bed. Furthermore, they easily fall out when you try to get comfortable, and your pillow could inadvertently press the touch-sensitive controls. The 1More Sleepbuds Z30 solve this problem.
The 1More Sleepbuds Z30 earbuds are designed for use in bed, with its small size and no physical controls. It also features soothing sounds that you can listen to as you drift off to sleep.
Cons
1More Sleepbuds Z30 is now available on Amazon for $79.99. It’s also available on the global 1More website.
The 1More Sleepbuds Z30 comes in a small case that would easily fit in your hand. It measures approximately 5.6 x 3.8 x 2.4 cm, but its rounded edges make it easy to hold. It’s also light at less than 40 grams with the case.
More importantly, the earbuds themselves are tiny; they weigh just 5.5 grams and fit securely in my ears. So, I can wear them in bed, and they won’t fall off no matter how I move and try to get comfortable. They’re perfect for me as a side sleeper, especially as other earbuds usually catch on my pillow when I move my head.
Aside from the earbuds and the case, you also get three extra ear tips in the box. These ensure that the earbuds fit snugly in your ear, allowing you to isolate yourself from the world. Although the Z30 doesn’t have active noise cancelation technology, their fit in your ear is good enough to stop environmental noises from disturbing you.
1More also includes a short USB-C charging cable and a white cloth drawstring bag to protect the case when it’s in your bag or pocket.
As the name suggests, the Sleepbuds Z30 is meant for sleeping. So, the earbuds do not come with a microphone, nor do they have any controls. This is a dealbreaker if you’re looking for a pair of TWS as a daily driver. But if you plan to use it solely for listening, the lack of controls and mic is actually a great feature.
When you’re using the Z30, you’re likely holding your phone or have it within arm’s reach. This makes it much easier to control your sounds from your device instead of using a touch control system that your pillow could accidentally fast forward your track or mute your volume.
On the other hand, the missing microphone means you cannot make a phone call with the Z30. But since it’s designed for use before sleeping, you’re unlikely to need it anyway. If you do receive a call while the Z30 is connected to your phone, you’ll have to use the phone’s earpiece.
Because of the 1More Sleepbuds Z30’s compact size, I frequently use them with my laptop while I’m working. Since my devices are always within reach when I’m at work, I don’t need to control anything using the earbuds. Furthermore, I prefer to use my wired microphone and stereo headphones when I’m in a call.
The Z30 has a decent battery life, with the left earbud retaining at 50% and the right one having 80% battery life left after using it for 150 minutes until I fell asleep — that is two and a half hours of continuous use. Given that, the earbuds could theoretically last between five and twelve hours of listening.
The case itself gives the earbuds an extra 24 hours of playtime, so you could go for three nights of listening between charges. You also don’t have to take long to fill up both the earbuds and their case. If you do run out of battery, it takes about an hour and a half to fill either device from full to empty.
If you want to extend the power of the Z30, you could turn off your phone’s Bluetooth connection when it plays soothing noises. This will give you an additional two hours of the earbuds and extend the case’s battery life by another eight hours. However, you will have to settle for the built-in soothing sounds in the earbuds if you want to do that.
You can control the 1More Sleepbuds Z30 via the 1More app. However, it doesn’t give you many options: the only thing you can change is the Listening mode, where you can pick between Music and Soothing. Music gives you high quality audio, while Soothing makes it sound less crisp, which could help some easily-distractable light sleepers.
Aside from that, you can also use the 1More app to start playing Soothing Sounds. The app gives you six options: Summer Rain, Medium Fire, Drizzle, Thunderstorm, Breeze, and Spring Water. Personally, I prefer Thunderstorm, as it gives the aural effect of heavy rain outside my window.
You could also set how long the soothing sounds will play, from 30 minutes all the way to 150. I always choose 150, as I sometimes take a bit longer to fall asleep. But when I wake up in the morning, I feel rested and refreshed, thanks to the Z30s. However, I find that the earbuds fall off my ear after getting up—they’re usually under my pillow or blanket, so I must make my bed to find them.
The 1More Sleepbuds Z30 might feel like niche TWS earbuds, which you will only use while sleeping. However, their no-frills design and functionality makes them the perfect earbuds for use in bed and while working in the office. You cannot use the Z30s for making calls on your phone, though, so if you need something for working out, I recommend getting earbuds designed for that activity.
