The Court of Appeal has commenced a three-day session at Kabale High Court, hearing 25 criminal appeals from the Kigezi region. The cases include 15 murder appeals, 7 aggravated defilement appeals, 2 rape appeals, 1 robbery appeal, and 1 manslaughter appeal.

This marks the second time the Court of Appeal has sat in the Kigezi region, aiming to bring justice closer to the people. The session is presided over by Justices Irene Mulyagonja, Christopher Gashirabake, and Eva Luswata.

Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera and Justice Irene Mulyagonja expressed their commitment to delivering justice during the session. The Kabale Resident District Commissioner, Godfrey Nyakahuma, and the head of the Kigezi bar, Justus Muhangi, welcomed the extension of this service to Kabale, citing reduced financial burdens for individuals who would otherwise have to travel to Kampala.

The session is expected to bring swift justice to the appellants and their families, and strengthen access to justice in the region.
