According to the police, some local residents, identified as Avijit Mondal alias Rana, Sayanrup Banerjee alias Rup, Kanu alias Waljiit, Bishal Deb, Supriodeep Majumder, Sudipta alias Ripu, and others forcibly entered 9/C Rajendra Roy Chowdhury Lane (Cassipore PS), physically assaulted the complainant and also demanded Rs 5 lakh in order to vacate an old tenant. “When the complainant objected, they ransacked the office, issued threats and stole Rs 1.95 lakh and a platinum finger ring (5-6 gm). A case has been lodged and two named persons in the FIR have been arrested so far. The search is on for others,” said a senior Kolkata Police officer.

Sarkar, who has been working on the construction of a multi-storeyed building on Rajendra Nath Roychowdhury Lane of Sithi area in North Kolkata, said that a local Trinamool Congress supporter Avijit Mondal alias Rana Das was offering to make ‘settlement’ with several people, residing as tenants, in the area where the high-rise building is under construction. The realtor also said that he would take up the matter with the tenants himself.

Meanwhile, the local residents have claimed that the realtor’s office was vandalised by aides of arrested TMC strongman Jayant Singh. Sarkar also has alleged that the assailants have links to Singh as well as Deputy Mayor and TMC MLA Atin Ghosh.
