West African foreign ministers, meeting under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Council of Ministers, pledged to step up their efforts on regional integration and fighting terrorism. 

Nigerian Foreign Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, who chairs the Council, announced this commitment at the close of the Council’s two-day 92nd session held in Abuja.

“We face significant challenges,” Tuggar acknowledged, “but I’m confident that through our combined determination, we’ll continue progressing towards a more integrated, prosperous, and peaceful West Africa.”

He commended participants for their contributions, which he credited with the session’s success (July 4-5, 2024).

The outcomes will pave the way for far-reaching decisions by ECOWAS leaders at their upcoming summit, Tuggar stressed.

“Thank you for your active participation and valuable input,” Tuggar said. “Your dedication to our shared vision and regional cooperation is inspiring. We’ve tackled critical regional issues that directly impact the well-being of our citizens and the prosperity of our nations.”

Tuggar highlighted the depth of analysis and collaborative spirit displayed during the session. “The resolutions we’ve adopted will be the foundation for discussions at the upcoming summit,” he explained. “Our hard work will help our leaders make informed decisions that benefit the entire ECOWAS community.”
