The Lagos State University (LASU) has withdrawn the newly introduced fees, bowing to pressure after the students protested.

LASU on Monday announced the withdrawal in a post on its X handle, adding that the students’ voices have been heard.

“Greatest Lasuites, the Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, following a meeting with students of the university, on Monday, July 8, 2024 has directed that the decision by the institution on the recently introduced CBT, Counselling, and Forensic charges, be withdrawn with immediate effect,” the post read.

The management of LASU bowed to pressure after the students of the university protested against the newly introduced fees including N10,000 for CBT.

According to LASU Life, the students also called for the immediate removal of policemen from the school premises.

The management thereafter requested for three hours to consider the requests.

LASU Life stated that the Vice-Chancellor was forced to come out to address students at the front of the senate building.

“The bill from LASU CBT was very high. 85 million naira was spent last semester and another 80 plus million was budgeted for this semester. The CBT is a private facility,” the VC
was quoted as saying.

“Let me assure you that there would be a review of that,” she said, adding that the students leaders would be addressed and urged students to go back to their classrooms.

A few hours later, the university bowed to pressure and withdrew the newly introduced fees.
