BODYCAM footage captured the heart-pounding moment a brave police officer rescued a handicapped man trapped in a house fire.

Earlier this month, Officer Kevin Long was the first to respond to an emergency on Sagemore Drive in Evesham, New Jersey.

Recent body camera footage revealed that the officer bravely ran into a burning townhouse after noticing the house had become engulfed in flames.

“I got smokey conditions! Smokey conditions,” he shouted as he sprinted toward the house.

He was followed shortly by the fire department.

“Upon assessing the situation, Officer Long discovered that a resident was trapped inside the burning home,” the press statement read.

“Without hesitation and under extreme hazardous conditions, Officer Long entered the home, navigating through almost zero visibility to affect a rescue of the trapped resident.”

In the footage, the officer told one resident to exit the burning house as he continued to search for the resident’s husband.

“I can’t see anything,” said the officer as he searched for the remaining resident.

After locating the husband, who was sitting on an armchair, the officer dragged him out of the house.

Police say the two victims are in their 70s and the man has a medical condition and can’t walk.

Once both residents were out of danger, the officer collapsed onto the front lawn.

In the body cam footage, Officer Long is heard coughing as he falls to the ground.

The police department reported that two residents from the fire were treated at local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officer Long was also admitted to a hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation, according to the police’s press statement.

“He did end up getting back up then went and evacuated the other 16 apartments,” Police Chief Walt Miller told WTXF.

According to the police department, the Evesham Fire-Rescue Quint 2235 arrived within 6 minutes of being dispatched.

They were able to contain the fire to the kitchen and prevented further damage to the five adjoining apartments.

The affected families were allowed to return to these units once the situation was under control.

On Monday, the department honored Officer Long for his bravery.

In 2020, he was recognized as officer of the year.

“Their bravery and quick action in the face of danger saved a life and minimized damage, reflecting the highest standards of public service,” read the police statement.

Police confirmed that the fire was due to unattended cooking.
