PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- One person died, and another was still missing Saturday night, after the U.S. Coast Guard searched for missing boaters in Lake Erie, according to WKYC.

The Coast Guard rescued two men and one woman in Lake Erie near the Perry nuclear power plant Saturday after they received a distress call about 10:30 a.m., according to a news release. A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Detroit and a boat crew from Station Cleveland Harbor were launched to search, according to the release.

Before 2 p.m., a local fire rescue boat crew said they found coolers and other debris floating in the water 1-2 nautical miles off the Perry Power Plant. The Detroit crew -- which had been diverted to a separate water rescue -- Saturday afternoon rescued one responsive person from the water wearing a life jacket. The fire department boat crew also rescued one responsive person from the water wearing a life jacket, the news release said.

The Cleveland Harbor crew rescued a third person, who was unresponsive and later died, according to WKYC.

The Coast Guard suspended the search about 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

In a separate incident, the Coast Guard rescued five people who had been walleye fishing in Lake Erie, in Ashtabula County, when a wave capsized their boat. They were all wearing life jackets, and they were founding clinging to a cooler.
