Lusaka, Zambia24 – (05-07-2024) – Rwanda celebrated the 30th anniversary of Liberation Day, marking the end of the 1994 genocide and its journey of recovery and development.

Emmanuel Bugingo, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Zambia, addressed Rwandese living in Zambia at the Mulungushi International Conference, urging them to value their hard-won freedom.

“Today, Rwanda stands as a testament to the power of unity and the strength of a people determined to shape their own destiny,” Bugingo stated, highlighting Rwanda’s economic growth, social development, and political stability.

He praised Rwanda’s transformation into one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, with Kigali renowned for its cleanliness and safety, despite controversies over political freedoms and human rights.

“We have come a long way, and our journey is a testament to the resilience of the Rwandan people,” Bugingo reflected, acknowledging the sacrifices made and the role of liberation in national renewal.

He thanked international partners, especially Zambia, for their support, emphasizing Rwanda’s evolution from turmoil to stability and growth.

“The support we have received from our international partners, especially Zambia, has been instrumental in our journey,” Bugingo said. “We are grateful for their solidarity and cooperation.”

The event, attended by Zambian officials and diplomatic representatives, showcased Rwanda’s commitment to progress despite challenges.

Hon. Elias Mubanga, Minister of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, delivered a speech highlighting Rwanda’s journey of resilience and progress.

“Rwanda’s story serves as a beacon of hope for Africa,” Mubanga stated. “From gaining independence in 1962 to rebuilding the nation from adversity, Rwanda’s journey is an inspiration to us all.”

Mubanga emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation between Zambia and Rwanda, citing their shared commitment to progress and prosperity.

“Our collaborative efforts in trade, education, healthcare, and humanitarian aid demonstrate the solidarity that binds African nations,” Mubanga noted.

He praised Rwanda’s recent donation of 1,000 metric tonnes of relief maize to Zambia during a drought, symbolizing African unity and mutual support.

“This act of generosity is a testament to the spirit of African unity and solidarity,” Mubanga said.

Mubanga called for strengthened bilateral relations between Zambia and Rwanda, emphasizing the need for continued economic cooperation to foster mutual growth and stability.

“Let us continue to work together to build a prosperous future for our nations and for Africa as a whole,” Mubanga encouraged.

Bishop Joshua Banda of Northmead Assemblies of God also commended Rwanda for its remarkable achievements through hard work and dedication.

“Rwanda’s journey is an inspiring example of what can be accomplished through unity and perseverance,” Bishop Banda said. “Their progress in overcoming their past is a testament to the collective effort of the Rwandan people in building a resilient and thriving nation.”

Through unity and cooperation, African nations can overcome challenges, celebrate achievements, and pave the way for a brighter, more resilient future.

As Bugingo affirmed, “Rwanda’s commitment to uphold dignity, unity, and progress aims to inspire future generations with its achievements.”
