The women in mining in nigeria initiative (wimin) has announced a three-day training program on gender-based violence (sgbv) for service providers in nasarawa state.

In a press release signed by the national president engr. Dr..Janet adeyemi and sent to journalists on thursday emphasised that the training, scheduled for july 8-10, 2023, aims to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively respond to and prevent sgbv in their communities.

According to the national president of wimin, “We are committed to empowering our service providers with the tools they need to combat sgbv and to foster a safe and supportive environment for survivors.”

She added that the training program will cover various critical topics, including understanding sgbv, cultural and social norms influencing sgbv, root causes and risk factors, legal framework and policies, survivor-centered approach, and trauma-informed care.

Dr. Adeyemi further said the training is designed to enhance the capacity of service providers, including healthcare professionals, law enforcement officers, social workers, and community leaders, to provide effective support to sgbv survivors and to promote a coordinated community response.

Engr. Dr. Adeyemi emphasized that “This training is a significant step towards achieving our goal of reducing sgbv and promoting gender equality in nasarawa state.”

Miss deloraine dennis, program manager at wimin, encouraged participants to register and be part of the effort to combat sgbv. “Together, we can make a difference and create a safer and more supportive community for all,” she said.

She added that the training will take place at crown luxury hotel, lafia, nasarawa state, from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm daily. “All service providers, stakeholders, and the general public are invited to support this important event.”
