In a recent interview with Arise TV, Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), responded to Nyesom Wike’s statement dismissing her as the senator of FCT. Wike had claimed that Kingibe was not the legitimate senator, and therefore, he was not obliged to deal with her.

Senator Kingibe countered Wike’s assertion, citing Sections 122 and 124 of the Evidence Act, which bind him to acknowledge her as the occupant of the senatorial seat. She further emphasised that Section 24 of the Nigerian Constitution imposes a duty on the Minister (Wike) to recognise her as a legitimate senator. Kingibe clarified that she was not targeting any individual but rather emphasising the legal obligations that apply to all ministers.
