Dean Henderson picks out young Man Utd playmaker as one of most underrated players in the Premier League

Manchester United have a number of exciting young players looking to continue making their mark for the club next season.

While Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho are currently away with their countries at the European Championships and Copa America, one top talent is already preparing for 2024/25.

Young playmaker Amad Diallo released a short training video, gliding past an opponent and showing off the quick footwork which has been a trademark ever since he arrived at Carrington in early 2021.

After a stop-start three years involving two loan spells and injuries, Amad began to break through into the first team at the end of last season.

Amad praised by Dean Henderson

It is great to see Amad begin to start to build on his potential. Late last season he was outstanding, especially in a late season victory at home to Newcastle.

The 21-year-old was this week picked out for praise by former Manchester United colleague Dean Henderson.

Henderson was speaking to the Lion’s Den on YouTube while on England duty at Euro 2024, and was asked to pick out the most underrated player he has ever played with or against.

His first response was Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino – but this answer was not the type of response being sought.

Henderson was pressed to pick out a less established name, and then instantly responded with Amad Diallo.

He said: “Amad Diallo. Obviously he’s broke onto the scene this season. He’s top, top.”

Henderson will have seen Amad first hand during training sessions and believes his high calibre potential is being slept on.

The season ended at the wrong time for Amad, just as he was getting on a roll, with many feeling he had staked a claim to start the FA Cup Final.

Amad needs better luck this pre-season

Amad will be looking to pick up where he left off and continue his momentum, with a view to being ready for the start of next season.

The trouble is, Manchester United must keep him fit. Last year Amad suffered an injury during pre-season, which meant he did not play a competitive minute until the final day of December.

It took even longer for Amad to catch up and establish himself, he started only three Premier League matches – the final three games.

In doing so, he looked really good, and has a chance to start United’s opener against Fulham in mid-August.

To be in with a chance, he must stay fit through pre-season 2024. Then, next season, he can start winning even more people over, and ensure he is underrated no more.
