With the Money in the Bank just 24 hours away and the matches officially booked, this week's SmackDown focused on building excitement for the premium live event from Toronto, Canada. SmackDown was also taking place in Toronto and the Canadian crowd showed a lot of love for their home-country favorites. WWE advertised several happenings for Friday's show, including Randy Orton, Kevin Owens, and Cody Rhodes addressing The Bloodline, DIY challenging A-Town Down Under, and Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill teaming up against Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell.

The big surprises took place in the last five minutes as new tag team champions were crowned and Solo Sikoa called out two major names.

Here are your winners and losers for SmackDown, July 5, 2024:

Winner: Men's Money In The Bank Chaos

Jey Uso kicked off SmackDown with a promo about Money in the Bank, quickly interrupted by LA Knight. MITB competitors Carmelo Hayes, Chad Gable, Andrade, and Drew McIntyre also showed up, each cut off by the next's entrance music. McIntyre was met with loud CM Punk chants and ran down each competitor before things broke down into a brawl. McIntyre looked like the winner early, but Knight and Uso teamed up to take out McIntyre.

This was a fairly predictable opening, a lot like WWE has done in the past to build these kinds of MITB matches. But, they do it because it works. WWE started the segment with Uso and Knight for a reason. They got the dueling Yeah and Yeet chants. These two stood tall at the end of the segment too. Is one of these two going to be winning the ladder match?

Winner: Street Profits

Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford, accompanied by B-Fab, entered the ring for their match with Pretty Deadly. Ford had a strong showing before tagging in Dawkins, who was cornered and double-teamed by Pretty Deadly. This solid match highlighted two strong tag teams. Ford secured the win for his team with a sky-high frog splash. The Street Profits defeated Pretty Deadly in an impressive display of athleticism and teamwork.

Pretty Deadly reminded everyone of how entertaining they are, while the match will get people asking why Montez hasn't gotten a legitimate singles push yet.

Winner: Belair and Cargill Earn A Fairly Easy Victory

Despite a rough week for both Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair personally, the former women's tag team champions faced former Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell. picking up a fairly easy win. In a short but competitive contest, Belair and Cargill hit their finishers simultaneously to secure the victory. Cathy Kelley interviewed the winners after the match and they declared their intentions to regain the women's tag titles from Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre.

Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Kevin Owens took to the ring to discuss their upcoming match against The Bloodline at Money in the Bank. Owens shared a personal moment, revealing some health concerns regarding his mother, but he was there because he knew she would want him to be.

Winner: Piper Niven vs. Bayley

In a singles match that essentially turned into a Women's Money in the Bank preview, Bayley took on Piper Niven. Iyo Sky was shown watching from the crowd and it didn't take long for the match to get out of control.

Niven almost won early with a running senton, but Bayley kicked out. The rest of the match was solid and when the rest of the Money in the Bank competitors showed up, Chelsea Green and Naomi began fighting which led to a full-on brawl. Tiffany Stratton hit a big moonsault to take everyone out who was ringside. This allowed Bayley to win with the Rose Plant. Nia Jax attacked Bayley after the match. Jax almost took out Bayley for good but Michin showed up with a kendo stick and ran Jax off.

Winner: DIY Wins WWE Tag Team Championships

New WWE tag team champions were crowned on Friday night as Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa defeated Austin Theory and Grayson Waller (A-Town Down Under) in a double tap-out finish to take the titles. The match was a fast-paced and intense contest. Ciampa and Gargano ultimately locked in submissions to win the match and capture the tag titles in a very cool and much-deserved moment. It will be intriguing to see how long they get a run with the gold and where Waller and Theory wind up now that they've lost their titles.

WWE hyped up this match with videos and promos throughout the show, making it feel like it was a legitimate main event bout. That it took place before Money in the Bank shows how stacked Saturday's premium live event is.

Solo Sikoa Takes Claim to Head of the Table Over Roman Reigns

SmackDown ended with a backstage pre-taped video segment featuring The Bloodline. Solo Sikoa talked about becoming the Tribal Chief and then blasted Roman Reigns for not being able to hold onto his seat at the head of the table. Holding the lei that made him the official Tribal Chief, Sikoa said, this is not what he wanted, but what the family needed. "Roman Reigns was not man enough to defend our title at WrestleMania. He was not man enough to defend our legacy against Cody Rhodes and his legacy. Therefore, he shall no longer call himself the Tribal Chief because I'm the Tribal Chief now!" Solo said. He then said he would take back the WWE Undisputed Title from Rhodes.

"And if Roman wants that back, he can try and take it from me," Sikoa exclaimed. He warned Cody he would be coming for him during the Money in the Bank six-man tag match and Cody would acknowledge him.

This was as strong a segment and promo as Sikoa has ever cut and the fact he called out Reigns all but makes it official that Reigns will be coming back as a babyface when he makes his return.
