Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has revealed the two players he is closest with in the Reds first-team squad. The Hungarian international arrived at Anfield last summer and has grown into a key member of the squad.

Szoboszlai, 23, arrived in a $75million (€70m/£60m) transfer from RB Leipzig and has started 25 games in the Premier League for Liverpool since his arrival. During this time he has added three goals and a further two assists from midfield.

The former Bundesliga man looked as if he would play a major role in Liverpool pushing for a historic quadruple to mark Jürgen Klopp's exit in style this season until a reoccurring hamstring injury sidelined the player for 12 games. He was forced to miss the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea, which the club went on to win, but was also limited in the role he could play as the Reds dropped out of the Europa League and FA Cup.

With the season all but over now after also slipping up in the title race, Szoboszlai has had a chance to reflect on his first season on Merseyside while speaking to MLSZ TV. The midfielder revealed his two closest friends within the squad, almost a year after his arrival “At the start, it was Trent and it still is him," he said.

"But as I’ve settled into the team, I can say it’s (Mohamed) Salah too. I’ve found common ground with everyone, so I can talk with everyone. Everyone gets on well with each other and although there aren’t many group events, when there is, everyone is there.”

Szoboszlai has played just nine minutes across the last two games against Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, with his last start coming against local rivals Everton. Liverpool lost the fixture 2-0 in a game which ended any hopes of a second Premier League title under Klopp.

Liverpool.com says: Szoboszlai has fit in well within the squad, as he highlights above. He will be a big part of the team for years to come and Arne Slot will be excited at the prospect of working with the midfielder - who is still only 23.
