William Zepeda vs. Giovanni Cabrera full results, schedule for 2024 boxing fight
There are currently four lightweight world champions and all of them have the same problem: William Zepeda is their No. 1 contender. The Mexican destroyer returns to action against Giovanni Cabrera at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California, on July 6. The 12-round bout, plus undercard action, will air on DAZN.
Zepeda (30-0, 26 KOs) is a rampaging pressure fighter who breaks the will of his opponents with hammering punches and an intense work rate. The 28-year-old southpaw is coming off a punishing fourth-round stoppage of Britain’s Maxi Hughes, who had just lost a highly controversial decision to ex-champ George Kambosos Jr.
Cabrera (22-1, 7 KOs) is a quick-fisted switch-hitter with plenty of guts. The 29-year-old hails from Seattle, Washington, and is best known for last year’s decision defeat to Isaac Cruz, who has since gone on to win the WBA super lightweight title. While he may have an edge in hand speed, Cabrera’s lack of hitting power could prove to be his undoing in this fight.
Should Zepeda overcome this latest challenge, then one of the 135-pound champions – Vasiliy Lomachenko (IBF), Gervonta Davis (WBA), Shakur Stevenson (WBC), or DenysBerinchyk (WBO) – has to face him later this year.
The Sporting News will provide undercard results and a full report on the main event.
The William Zepeda vs. Giovanni Cabrera fight card will be available via DAZN.
The William Zepeda vs. Gio Cabrera main card airs at 8 p.m. ET. Zepeda and Cabrera should make their way to the ring around 10:30 p.m. ET, depending on how long the undercard fights last.
