Reporters Shout At Joe Biden In Painful Video

Following President Joe Biden’s address on the Supreme Court’s decision granting “absolute immunity” for official acts involving former President Donald Trump, members of the White House press corps shouted questions at him. They asked whether he planned to “drop out” of the presidential race and why he believed he should be president.

Monday saw a convergence of two major stories: calls for Biden to withdraw from the race following CNN’s coverage of the Biden-Trump debate last Thursday, and a controversial Supreme Court ruling that has sparked widespread concern.

The 6-3 Supreme Court ruling affirmed “absolute immunity” in the exercise of presidential constitutional powers and other associated restrictions. In a strong dissent, Justice Sonia Sotomayor criticized the ruling, arguing that it effectively shields presidents from criminal prosecution, allowing them to engage in extreme actions like ordering assassinations or orchestrating coups without legal repercussions.

The President of the United States is the most powerful person in the country, and possibly the world. When he uses his official powers in any way, under the majority’s reasoning, he now will be insulated from criminal prosecution. Orders the Navy’s Seal Team 6 to assassinate a political rival? Immune. Organizes a military coup to hold onto power? Immune. Takes a bribe in exchange for a pardon? Immune. Immune, immune, immune.

Biden, echoing Sotomayor’s dissent, voiced his agreement in the Roosevelt Room.

I concur with Justice Sotomayor’s dissent today. She said, “In every use of official power, the president is now a king above the law… with fear for our democracy, I dissent.”
