Several people seriously injured after two-car crash southwest of Brisbane

Three people were injured after a fully loaded truck crashed into more than a dozen cars at Moorebank in Sydney’s southwest on Saturday afternoon.

Photos of the scene show the extent of the damage, with the front and back end of one black 4WD completely caved in.

Emergency services rushed to the intersection of Nuwarra and Newbridge roads at about 1:15pm when police understand the truck hit 19 vehicles before crossing onto the footpath.

It then ploughed through metal gates and crashed into an empty classroom of St Joseph's Catholic Primary School where it finally came to a stop.

The driver of the truck was trapped in the cab for almost 40 minutes before Fire and Rescue NSW officers could free them.

They were subsequently taken to Liverpool Hospital to be treated for what police understand to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Another two people from the damaged cars had to be taken to hospital for minor injuries, while a further six were assessed by paramedics at the scene.

The truck is set to be towed away so it can undergo a mechanical examination while the building is being checked for structural damage.

Liverpool City Police Area Command’s Acting Inspector Shaun Colls said it was miraculous there weren’t more injuries.

“Considering the amount of vehicles that were involved, the level of damage to all vehicles, I was expecting a lot worse than minor injuries, it’s quite amazing,” he said.

“That’s including the driver himself - it’s a lucky day that no one was seriously injured.”

Anyone with dashcam vision of the incident is being urged to come forward and contact Liverpool Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
