California Gov. Newsom fuels speculation he is preparing to step in

Gavin Newsom is headed to New Hampshire to canvas for Joe Biden, which won't stop those speculating he'd replace the president on the ticket.

Americans have wondered for days if Biden would drop out after his disastrous first debate with Donald Trump.

Now, Newsom is set to head to a state that shows the full extent of Biden's electoral problems.

A new post-debate poll released Monday from St. Anselm College found that former President Donald Trump is beating Joe Biden by two points in New Hampshire

The last time a Republican presidential candidate won the state was George W. Bush in 2000.

The event, called Blue Summer Campaign Kick-Off, is being hosted by New Hampshire's Democrat Congressional delegation.

'We look forward to welcoming Governor Newsom to New Hampshire to campaign on behalf of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as we work to once again defeat Donald Trump,' New Hampshire Democratic Party chair Ray Buckley said in a statement to Fox News.

Newsom, despite speculation, has adamantly said that he 'will never turn my back on President Biden' and is not running a secret campaign.

'I don't know a Democrat in my party that would do so. And especially after tonight, we have his back,' he said.

He has done his best to instead reassure Americans that the president is still capable.

'I spent a lot of time with him. I know Joe Biden. I know what he's accomplished in the last three and a half years. I know what he's capable of. And I have no trepidations.'

The poll is shocking considering Biden beat Trump in the state by more than seven points in 2020.

The survey found Trump leads 44 percent to Biden's 42 percent while Robert F. Kennedy Jr. received 4 percent of the vote.

Biden, 81, fumbled and stumbled in the first presidential debate, losing his train of thought, sounding hoarse and searching for words as a composed Donald Trump swatted at his arguments.

Newsom, 56, told DailyMail.com that claims that he could replace Biden, 81, in November were 'farcical.'

Following the debate, the democrat said on MSNBC: 'We’ve got to go in, we’ve got to keep our head high and as I say, we’ve got to have the back of this president,” Newsom said. 'You don’t turn your back because of one performance. What kind of party does that?'

But his appearance has sparked claims that the governor was placed in front of cameras as part of a plan to replace Biden.

Former pre-candidate for president Vivek Ramaswamy said: 'What we witnessed tonight wasn’t an accident, it was intentional. Brace yourself for a wild 5 months ahead.'

Ramaswamy has been floating around the theory that the Democratic party was planning to replace Biden since last year's Republican debates in November.

He said at the time, addressing the Democratic Party: 'End this farce today.

'Joe Biden isn't going to be your nominee. We know he's not even the president of the United States. He's a puppet for the managerial class.

Many have even theorized that the Democratic party wanted Biden to perform poorly all along to create an exit strategy that would see Newsom become the candidate.

Focus much of this weekend post-debate has been on the Biden family, who gathered at Camp David to discuss their patriarch's political future, while mega-donors and famous supporters plot their own courses of action.

The family has offered its unequivocal support to the president and even wondered how they can get further involved, with troubled son Hunter insisting his father fight back into the race.

However, many have started to play the blame game, citing Biden's advisors' poor debate prep to face Donald Trump and time is of the essence as Democrats panic at his dive in the polls post-Atlanta.
