Resounding Success for Archdiocese Fundraiser in Pretoria

scross.co.za 2024/10/6

A Family Fun Day was held on August 24 at Most Holy Redeemer Church in Mmakau, north of Pretoria. The event was a fundraiser by the North-West Deanery of the Archdiocese of Pretoria. Activities for the day included sports, children`s activities, team competitions, music showcases and more. The funds raised will go towards the administration of the archdiocese.

Over three hundred revellers from all over the deanery graced the occasion. The Southern Cross spoke to them, finding out how they felt about the successful fundraising event:

“From the moment we came together, it was clear that something special was happening. The sense of unity, camaraderie, and shared purpose was palpable. We witnessed first-hand the power of community—how coming together with open hearts and minds can create a space where everyone feels valued, supported, and inspired,” Mr Thabang Diketana, St Charles Lwanga, Soshaguve

“I’ve had the most wonderful time here today. I did all my schooling here at the mission. I started at Morekolodi Primary School, and then went to Tsogo High School. It`s been a great reconnection with my old stomping ground, all for a good cause,” Mrs Jane Letanka, St Joseph Church, Brits

“To witness this unity, love and common purpose here today has been just wonderful. It brings me close to tears. I hope and trust that this is the beginning of projects such as this to bring life back into this historic church in Mmakau,” Rachel Motsepe, Good Shepherd Church, Wintevedlt

“For the first time in a long time, at least since after the Covid-19 epidemic, I saw fellow Catholics from all over the North-West deanery coming together to play their own part in making a contribution towards the running of the archdiocese. We need to encourage such activities more at this church especially. It’s one that has all the space needed, and the facilities too. I hope that this will drive the parish itself and the organising committee to look into ways of making use of the unused buildings at the church. I see a weekend retreat centre of the future at this church,” Loyd Muchichwa, The Church of the Guardian Angels, Ten Morgan.
