In a heartwarming ceremony, Kara Elko, the Director of Critical Care at WVU Medicine United Hospital Center, was honored with the prestigious External Partnership Award by the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE). This award serves as a recognition of Elko's dedication and commitment to coordinating an organ donation in her personal time, ultimately leading to the extension of lives of four individuals in need. A Life-Saving Partnership After the selfless donation, David Wayne Collins' organs were able to provide a new lease on life for four people. His heart was transplanted to a woman in her 60s, his liver to a woman in her 50s, and each of his kidneys to two men in their 50s and 60s respectively.
