Man jailed for one year after impregnating girl
A 27-year-old man from Carnarvon will spend one year in prison following his conviction for engaging in a sexual relationship with a minor, after which the girl fell pregnant.
A 27-YEAR-old accused from Carnarvon will spend one year in prison following his conviction for engaging in a sexual relationship with a minor, after which the girl fell pregnant.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers said the girl was taken to a local clinic in April where the pregnancy was confirmed.
“The accused was arrested and charged with performing sexual acts on a child. The accused was convicted in the De Aar Regional Court on July 4. He was found guilty of sexual penetration with a child between the ages of 12 to 16 years,” said Ehlers.
She added that the accused was sentenced to six years imprisonment, of which five years were suspended for a period of five years.
“His name is to be included in the national register for sexual offenders.”
