ASABA/Nigeria: Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North senatorial district at the National Assembly, has clarified that he is not seeking the creation of Anioma State to assume the position of governor once the state becomes a reality.

Speaking on Monday at the Asaba residence of PDP stalwart Chief Godswill Obieluem, Nwoko, the sponsor of the Anioma State creation bill before the red chambers, addressed a gathering of Ndokwa leaders, youths, and women. The Federal lawmaker emphasized that his focus remains solely on the creation of Anioma State.

Nwoko highlighted that the question of which geographical zone Anioma would belong to revolves around widespread public affirmation, guided by democratic norms. He noted that the agitation for Anioma State, which has lingered for 50 years, must be realized now for the sake of equity.

“The present government is resolved to create a state, and Anioma stands a golden chance,” Senator Nwoko stated. “I want Anioma, yes, but I am not aspiring to be Governor of Anioma. My focus is to witness the birth of Anioma. From my interactions among our people, we all want Anioma.”

The Senator outlined the benefits of the proposed state, emphasizing the opportunities it would bring. “Anioma State would come with exciting opportunities—a full-fledged government with offices, elective positions, and political appointments. There would be development of social infrastructure, coming closer to our doorsteps,” he explained. “We must all support the creation of Anioma State. Our forebears championed Anioma. We have a collective duty to make Anioma come through this time.”

Senator Nwoko also updated the meeting on his stewardship, highlighting his efforts to secure adequate government attention for projects such as Okpai electricity, Oko road, and the Ogwashi Uku dam, which he considers dear to him. He assured that more amenities for Delta North would be embedded in subsequent budgets for implementation.

Expressing gratitude to the people of Delta North for their support, Nwoko vowed to continue serving as a responsive ambassador. He later signed a condolence register in honor of Chief Obieluem’s mother, who passed away a few weeks ago.
