NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, expect a gradual shift from partly cloudy skies to mostly cloudy conditions, with temperatures settling in the mid 70s.

As we head into Wednesday, anticipate a mix of clouds and sunshine in the morning hours, leading to partly sunny skies by midday. Highs will climb into the upper 80s and low 90s. It will be breezy with winds picking up a bit, gusting up to 25 mph from the south.

Thursday looks to be partly sunny with humid air and highs in the low 90s. Heat index values or “feels like” temperatures will be close to 100 degrees.

The atmosphere will become increasingly unsettled as the day progresses, with a surge of moisture from the southwest enhancing the chance of showers and thunderstorms overnight.

There is a possibility of isolated severe weather, especially for the northern half of the area, including hail, high wind gusts, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of Southeast Louisiana and South Mississippi under a Level 2 risk for severe storms.

Friday brings a gradual improvement in conditions as the system moves eastward. While there’s still a slight chance of morning showers and thunderstorms, expect skies to clear by the afternoon, with highs in the mid 80s.

Heading into the weekend, anticipate partly cloudy skies with temperatures cooling some after the passage of a cold front. Overnight lows are forecast to drop into the 60s with daytime highs topping out in the lower 80s during the day.

Keep an eye on the forecast as we approach Sunday night, as there’s a chance of showers and thunderstorms returning to the area. Looking further ahead to Monday and Tuesday, we could see continued unsettled weather with a decent chance of showers and thunderstorms each day.
