Two Greensprings students outscore peers in IGCSE exams

Oluwatobi Somorin and David Ekenta-Ifeanyi are two graduates of Greensprings School who recently made Nigeria proud by emerging top in the 2023 International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examination.

Somorin was given the ‘top in country’ award in Mathematics (without coursework) while Ekenta-Ifeanyi was given ‘top in country’ in Physical Education in the 2023 IGCSE.

According to the 2023 Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards, Somorin won the Overall Best across eight subjects in Nigeria.

In addition to students’ performance, Greensprings School Lekki, a British Council partner school was also honoured for its impactful contributions to best practice policies in equality, diversity, inclusion, and child protection and its efforts in promoting upward mobility for employees.

Commending the achievements of the students, Feyisara Ojugo, acting deputy director of Education at Greensprings School Lagos, said the management of the school is immensely proud of the outstanding achievements of the students.

According to Ojugo, the student’s achievements highlight the school’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and the dedication of the students and educators who have supported them throughout their academic journey.

“We want to say a big congratulations to our extraordinary students and a big well done to their teachers for the role they played towards this wonderful achievement, and to sincerely thank their parents and everyone who contributed to their success,” Ojugo said.

The Cambridge IGCSE examination is an international examination taken by students aged 14 to 16 years. The examination is administered at the final secondary school year of various international schools in Nigeria, with the British Council and Cambridge Assessment International Education being the administrators.

At the end of the exams, students are decorated with the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards an initiative of the British Council with a primary objective of recognising best-performing students and innovative schools.

Meanwhile, the latest achievements by Greensprings students represent the seventh consecutive time, since 2016, that the students from the school will be awarded ‘Top in Country’ in various subjects.

They have received awards in subjects like Mathematics, English, Physics, Biology, Global Perspective, Literature, French and Drama.
