The Federal Government has alerted Nigerians to prepare for increased rainfall both in frequency and intensity in July.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) made this known in a July Weather Outlook released on Monday.

“Rainfall is expected to increase both in frequency and intensity, especially over the north and north central states; while a combination of Intermittent and continuous rains should persist over the southern cities,” the federal agency warned.

Dry Spell and the Little Dry Season (LDS) also known as the mid-summer drought is expected to occur simultaneously towards the end of July, the Weather Outlook said.

The agency noted that cooler temperatures (both days and nights) will dominate the southern states due to the cloudy atmosphere, advising Nigerians to cover up properly during this period to avert cold-related ailments.

“The public should make sure that the drainage systems are cleared and properly maintained to prevent flash flooding during this time.

“The Dry Spell is expected to affect the Central and Northern States the most, expect lean rainfall in this region,” Weather Outlook stated.

BusinessDay had earlier reported that the Wednesday heavy rainfall in Lagos caused flood and traffic gridlock, disrupting economic activities in the mega city.

Videos circulating on social media and verified by BusinessDay showed that places like Iyana-Oworo, Oshodi, Lekki, Ikeja, Egbeda, Gbagada and others were flooded on Wednesday morning.

The flooded roads are nearly impassable causing gridlock and discomfort for commuters.

Many Lagosians heading out for daily activities on Wednesday morning have registered their lamentations on social media while advising others to stay at home.
