“Honestly, I wanted to try this and I got tired of braids all the time. I like to change up my hair, I’ve tried color in the past with the braids and everything, but I just needed something different” – said Gauff about her cornrows. Now, a few days back, Gauff had a makeover date with her mother in Paris.

Partnering with her official hair sponsor, Carol’s Daughter, Gauff showed her fans a new afro hairstyle. Sharing a mirror selfie on her official Instagram story, Gauff wrote- “good fro day! thanks to @carolsdaughter.” Gauff’s hairstyles have created a sensation, making her a true legacy-bearer of her icon, Serena Williams. The American sensation has a reason behind her unique hairstyles.

Narrating how her hairstyles often speak volumes of her pride in her racial identity, Gauff once said- “When I was young, I committed myself to showcasing Black hairstyles when I play, and that’s something that I take pride in. Whether it’s box braids, twists, or my natural hair, it’s a form of self-expression that I’m really proud of, especially because you still don’t see it very often in our sport.”

She donned ponytails, but mostly in glamor events like the Gridiron Glamour Celebrity fashion show, Williams rocked her micro braids followed by simple blonde locks. “The Serena Williams version of Coco Gauff started”- wrote a fan.
