OCHA Brigade Extends Drainage Desilting Exercise To Onitsha

Anambra state government through Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, has extended its extensive drainage desilting drive across the state.

The enforcement team of OCHA Brigade led by the Managing Director, Comrade Celestine Anere commenced the drive with sensitization and evacuation of debris on Old market road by Union Bank/Bright street Onitsha.

Addressing the people, Comrade Anere revealed that to avoid flooding, drainages must be properly cared for in order to avoid damaging properties and newly constructed roads built by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

He warned business owners and residents on the need to remove and evacuate dirt properly as well as ensure proper desilting of their drainage systems to ensure free flow of water as well as discourage shanties and illegal structures on the drainages which constitute major blockage of waterways in all parts of the state.

According to the OCHA Brigade boss, the exercise is in line with Professor Soludo’s efforts to ensure regeneration and revitalization of Onitsha metropolis through government policies on clean, green, healthy and livable homeland.

The enforcement team later embarked on decongestion and discouraging of roadside trading along Awkuzu, Oye Agu Abagana, Afor Igwe Umudioka and Eze-Iweka Obosi roads.

Speaking in the areas, Comrade Anere reminded them of the government warnings against street trading and blockage of drainages which he said defaces the state and contributes to flooding during the rainy season.
