A 16-year-old is charged with reckless homicide in the death of a 65-year-old

The man later died at the hospital. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner identified the man as Gary Grose, 65. A second gunshot victim walked into a local hospital later, according to the complaint. According to police, two suspects fired shots at the park. It is unclear which person fired the bullet which killed Grose. Zechariah Watson Macklin, 16, is charged with first-degree reckless homicide as a party to a crime. The second suspect has not been identifiedMilwaukee County Sheriff's Detective Matthew Vandertie reports the sheriff's office was dispatched to Sherman Park near the Mary Ryan Boys and Girls Club around 5:45 p.m. on June 15. The sheriff's office, the Milwaukee Police Department, and the Milwaukee Fire Department all responded to the park. They took Grose to the hospital, where he died around 6:30 p.m.Detective Mason Kohlhapp of the Sheriff's Office interviewed the second gunshot victim, identified as "DDD" in the complaint, about what led up to the shooting. DDD told the detective that he saw a physical fight between a "kid" and a large group of people. DDD and his brother, identified as "DD," tried to break up the fight because they believed the "kid" was going to be extremely hurt. After the fight broke up, DDD said he heard five or six gunshots. He then realized he had been shot in the leg. His brother drove him to the hospital.Kohlhapp then interviewed DD, who confirmed what his brother saw about the fight between one boy and a large group of people. He said he heard between 10 and 15 gunshots from a "small caliber" handgun. Detectives recovered 17 cartridges from the scene.According to the criminal complaint, security video from the Mary Ryan Boys and Girls Club shows two shooters. The security video shows Suspect 1 getting out of a car and walking to the basketball court. Suspect 1 is with the assault victim, identified by DDD as the "kid" when the assault starts. Suspect 1 walks east with a group and gets a gun from an unknown subject. Suspect 1 fires the gun toward the assault victim and other people. Suspect 1 gives the gun back to the unknown subject and runs away.Suspect 2 walks through the park, then raises a handgun with an extended magazine and fires at the victims and other people. Suspect 2 also runs away.Detectives identified Suspect 1 as Zechariah Watson Macklin. They interviewed Watson Macklin, who identified himself as one of the shooters in the security video. He claimed an "old man had a gun" and he shot in self-defense. Watson Macklin did not see the gun but said he knew the "old man" had the gun because someone else said so.Surveillance video also shows Watson Macklin and Suspect 2 walking together around the Boys and Girls Club. 12 News reached out to the sheriff's office to ask if they are still looking for Suspect 2. We have not yet heard back.
