According to a news report from Daily Trust, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has refuted claims of setting the cost of purchasing its form for the chairmanship position in the forthcoming local government election at N1 million.

In a notice signed by Abdulganiyu Kure, chairman of the finance subcommittee of the Local Government Electoral Committee, the APC clarified that N1 million is for the chairmanship position and N250,000 for counsellorship positions. The sale of forms will close on June 25, and forms will remain free for women and people living with disabilities.

Daily Trust noted that the pricing issue has caused some controversy among party members.

But speaking with our correspondent, the APC chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi said, “The party is yet to fix any amount for forms. Kure was not in the best position to speak for the party. We have even suspended the sale of forms now. We will let you know when we are done with it.”

Meanwhile, the publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olushola Olusegun Adewara, said expression of interest and nomination forms for the chairmanship would be sold at N20,000 and N80,000 respectively, making N100,000, while those for the counsellorship would cost N5,000 and N20,000, totaling N25,000.

He said that to encourage gender inclusion, female and physically challenged aspirants would pay 50 per cent of the rates.
