Dele Alli has shared what really impressed him about Aston Villa’s surprise win at Arsenal over the weekend.

Aston Villa took a huge step towards the Champions League on Sunday as Unai Emery picked up a 2-0 victory on his return to the Emirates Stadium.

Goals from Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins earned Villa a deserved three points off the back of a brilliant second-half display.

Despite a slow start to the game, Emery’s side came out firing after the break and were rewarded with two late goals.

The likes of Morgan Rogers and Diego Carlos impressed on the day, with the latter earning the Player of the Match award.

But above anything, it was the team performance which caught the eye and Everton star Dele Alli was impressed with the Villains.

“It was very impressive to see,” the former Tottenham man said. “They could have just completely changed their play when you go up against a team like Arsenal. At the Emirates, it takes so much character and bravery to play.

“For me, that’s a well-coached team, the timing when the full-backs are going high and dropping and disconnecting Arsenal’s attacking and defensive players, it was good to see.”

Off the back of Sunday’s result, Villa are in a commanding position in the race for a top-four finish.

Tottenham suffered a heavy defeat at Newcastle on Saturday, leaving Ange Postecoglou’s side three points behind the Villains.

It’s fair to say that Spurs have an incredibly difficult run of fixtures. Postecoglou’s side face trips to Stamford Bridge and Anfield, as well as home games against Manchester City and Arsenal.

As for Villa, their toughest test on the road is likely to come at Brighton, while they will also play Chelsea and Liverpool at home before the season ends.
