The Barnstable Police received a report of an incident near a TD Bank on Route 28 in Hyannis shortly before 7:30 p.m., according to the Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois’ office.

The community is reeling from the news that Guedes, the young mother involved, reportedly used a kitchen knife to cut her newborn’s umbilical cord but failed to properly secure it afterward. This tragic mistake led to excessive bleeding, and in a move that further shocked neighbors and authorities alike, she then threw the baby out of the window.

When police arrived at the scene, they were met with a gruesome sight. One of the occupants had an apparent stab wound to his chest.
