Residents of Oviedo Enjoy July 6 Fireworks Celebration
OVIEDO, Fla. – It’s a Fourth of July celebration – just two days late.
Last year, Oviedo city council members voted 4-1 to hold their Independence Day celebration two days after the holiday on July 6 at the Oviedo Mall Parking lot.
It was decision many criticized especially since fireworks-only show cost taxpayers around $46,000.
However dozens who filled the park lot Saturday night say they’re happy with the decision.

“I don’t think the residents mind. I like it better when it’s like this,” said Oviedo Resident Lisa Cashmen.
Lisa and Bill Cashmen said they believe the weekend celebration is a great idea and brings more people to the Oviedo Mall.
However, they also believe it was also a missed opportunity.
“I think Oviedo could capitalize it on it a little bit more. They could have had more food trucks, made more money off of it,” Lisa Cashmen said.
People had mixed opinions on holding the event on July 6 again next year, but most want to celebrate on a weekend.
They plan to share their thoughts when the council decides again on the celebration at the end of this year.
