With Crystal Palace hoping to win the race ahead of two Premier League rivals, the European Championships provides proof of the benefits of a switch to Selhurst Park.

Marc Guehi and Ebere Eze will be in contention to feature for England during Wednesday’s semi-final with the Netherlands. Adam Wharton will be on the bench too.

Eze and Wharton were playing Championship football for Queens Park Rangers and Blackburn Rovers before Crystal Palace plucked them out of the second-tier. And while star centre-back Guehi technically joined from Chelsea, his own arrival came on the back of a fine loan spell at Swansea City.

The inclusion of all three players in Gareth Southgate’s England squad – not to mention Michael Olise’s £50 million switch to Bayern Munich – will surely do Palace’s hopes of winning the race for Jaden Philogene no harm.

HITC understands that Palace have had a bid accepted by Hull City. So too have Everton and Ipswich Town, however, though Oliver Glasner’s side should be negotiating from a position of strength given the remarkable success they have enjoyed when signing EFL players and putting them on a path to the very top.

Crystal Palace and Everton in Jaden Philogene race

“He had a fantastic season for Hull,” Carlton Palmer, a former England international himself, tells Football League World. “It will be interesting to see where he ends up.”

talkSPORT claims that newly-promoted Ipswich are confident of striking a double deal which could see Philogene and centre-back Jacob Greaves move to Portman Road for around £17 million apiece.

Now, Everton’s financial issues are well documented but Palmer wonders if there is money available at Goodison Park after The Toffees avoided having to stump up a considerable permanent fee for Leeds United’s Jack Harrison.

“Everton took Jack Harrison back out on loan, they didn’t have to fork out a loan fee. They can still be in the hunt to sign somebody like Philogene on a full-time basis,” adds Palmer, once of Leeds, West Brom and Southampton.

“Obviously he’s playing regular football at Hull, so he wouldn’t want to go anywhere and not play. So, I would think that if Everton are paying £15 million for him, you would think that he’s going to be playing regularly.

“But Ipswich, if they splash out £16 – £17 million for him, you’d think that he’d go on and play a lot of football.

“Palace are a really good club, as we’ve seen in the Euros with so many of Palace’s players featuring at the Euros.

“Everton, Ipswich, Palace; (any of these three) would be a great move for him. I think that possibly Ipswich might win the race for his signature.”

Potential Michael Olise replacement

Philegene provided six assists in the Championship last season while scoring 12 often spectacular goals of his own. One remarkable – if heavily deflected rabona effort against Rotherham United – only confirmed what avid EFL viewers had suspected for some time.

That Philogene was a footballer capable of playing at a far higher level.

That potential will be tested should the one-time Aston Villa youngster end up stepping into Olise’s considerable shoes at Selhurst Park.

HITC understands that Palace are also considering Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto and Sunderland’s Jack Clarke – two very typical Dougie Freedman style signings – and Club Brugge wonderkid Antonio Nusa.

Hull City owner Acun Ilicali, meanwhile, confirmed to talkSPORT last week that he will not stand in Philogene’s way should an acceptable offer arrive.
