Erstwhile Super Eagles media officer Babafemi Raji, popularly known as Topmost Striker has disclosed that he cried after Nigeria missed out on the last edition of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Super Eagles were edged out by arch-rivals Ghana via the away goal rule, following a 1-1 draw at the MKO Abiola Stadium, after the first leg had ended in a goalless draw in Kumasi.

In an exclusive interview with PUNCH Sports, the former Brila FM sports journalist confessed that he couldn't hold back his tears after witnessing the emotional state of the Super Eagles players after the game.

"I recall that day when it was 1-1 (against Ghana in Abuja), and our coordinator indicated that we should start making our way down from our seats, knowing how the game was likely to end. Inside the dressing room, the tension and emotions were palpable. I will never forget how Sadiq Umar's crying affected me."

Raji continued, "I remember how Ahmed Musa, a great leader, tried to rally everyone. When I got to the hotel, I got under the shower and started crying uncontrollably. I cried so much that I developed a headache. It was a very low moment. The thought of going to the World Cup with the team had been on my mind, given the efforts we put in in the media department. My wife even refrained from calling me at that time, knowing how devastated I was."
