LAGOS – A dramatic armed robbery incident occurred on Friday at a commercial bank in Ughelli, Delta State, leading to the theft of an undisclosed amount of money from a bank customer and multiple shootings that wounded three individuals, including a private security guard.

The robbery, carried out by a group of five armed individuals using a Toyota Venza, took place during daylight hours and caused widespread fear along Isoko Road in Otovwodo, the bank’s vicinity.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the robbers, who had seemingly followed their target to the bank, fired shots randomly while seizing three large bags filled with money as the customer neared the bank’s entrance.

The gunfire from the attackers wounded a private security guard and two other individuals.

Emergency services swiftly reacted, and the victims are presently undergoing medical care. The extent of their injuries remains undisclosed.

The Delta State Police Command, as conveyed by its spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, verified the robbery.

Edafe made it clear that the event was not a bank robbery but a deliberate assault on a bank customer.

“A bank customer was double-crossed before he could get to the bank. It’s not a bank robbery,” Edafe stated.

In reaction to the robbery, security forces have boosted security measures around the bank and other vital locations in the city. The increased security presence is intended to reassure the community and deter future occurrences.

The event has significantly affected the local economy, prompting numerous shop owners near Upper Agbarho Junction on Isoko Road to shut down their businesses for the day due to safety worries.
