Jadon Sancho's Dortmund success has handed Man Utd a cash boost

Manchester United have been handed a significant financial boost after Jadon Sancho helped Borussia Dortmund reach the Champions League semi-finals.

Sancho, 24, was loaned out to his former club in January, with Dortmund paying an initial fee of €3.5million plus a potential €4m in add-ons for the former England international's services. The winger has played a growing role in Dortmund’s Champions League success in the past two rounds.

Now the MEN, as per the Mirror, has claimed the Red Devils pocketed a substantial bonus from the Bundesliga giants thanks to Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final triumph over Atletico Madrid. Sancho played 86 minutes of the dramatic 4-2 win and 90 minutes in the away tie previously, impressing in both legs.

He has been instrumental in Dortmund's journey to the semis, scoring in the return leg of the last-16 victory over PSV Eindhoven. And a source at United revealed that the Old Trafford club will receive an even bigger sum if Edin Terzic's side manage to overcome Paris Saint-Germain in the semis.

Sancho fell out of favour at United at the beginning of this season. He was exiled from the first team after publicly disputing manager Erik ten Hag's claim that the playmaker was dropped from the matchday squad to play Arsenal due to subpar performances in training.

So far, the Red Devils have recouped Sancho's wages for the second half of the season, but they will recover them entirely should Dortmund activate every bonus in his loan contract. The additional finances bolster United's chances of adhering to financial fair play and the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules, which other top-flight clubs have breached this season.

Sancho will be back at United after June 30 when his loan deal at Dortmund ends. The Red Devils are still expected to sell the forward they shelled out £73million for in the summer of 2021, but it remains uncertain whether he will return to BVB.
