New Study Reveals T-Mobile Is Top US Carrier for Network Performance, Customer Satisfaction

techtimes.com 2 days ago

T-Mobile's killing it lately. A new study shows that the American wireless network operator is dominating other carriers when it comes to network performance, keeping customers happy, and multiple key categories.

Conducted by Opensignal, the study compared the three major carriers-T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon-against each other across 15 categories, including overall experience, 5G experience, coverage, and consistency.

Despite recent data security issues and outages, the three US networks performed surprisingly well.

Study: T-Mobile Is America's Best Wireless Network Operator

T-Mobile emerged victorious in 9 out of the 15 categories, dominating in overall experience.

The carrier's impressive performance was particularly notable in 5G availability, where T-Mobile users with active 5G subscriptions spent 67.9% of their time connected to 5G. This figure is almost six times higher than AT&T and nine times higher than Verizon, emphasizing T-Mobile's strong 5G network presence.

In terms of download speeds, T-Mobile continued to excel, with an average download speed of 139.3 Mbps. This is over three times faster than Verizon, which came in third.

T-Mobile's average download speed saw a significant boost of 26 Mbps since the previous report, widening the gap between it and its competitors.

Verizon Sets the Standard in 5G Experience

While T-Mobile dominated many categories, Verizon shone in the 5G experience metrics.

Verizon secured the top spots in 5G Video Experience (70.2 points), 5G Live Video Experience (70.9 points), and 5G Games Experience (82.6 points).

These scores, based on a 100-point scale, indicate Verizon's superior performance in providing a quality 5G experience for video streaming, live video, and gaming.

Verizon also led in 5G upload speeds, averaging 21.2 Mbps. This made Verizon the only operator with average 5G upload speeds greater than 20 Mbps, with T-Mobile trailing by 2 Mbps.

AT&T Shines in Coverage Availability

AT&T, while often lagging behind T-Mobile and Verizon, had its own strengths. The carrier narrowly beat Verizon in coverage availability, with a score of 99.5% compared to Verizon's 99.3%.

This marked AT&T's fifth consecutive win in this category, showcasing its strong and reliable network coverage.

Consistency Is Key

T-Mobile also secured Opensignal's Consistent Quality award for the third consecutive time, achieving a score of 80.6%. However, its lead over Verizon in this category shrunk to just one percentage point, with Verizon improving its score by three percentage points between reports.

Consistent Quality measures how often users experience network performance sufficient for demanding applications like HD video streaming, group video calls, and gaming.

An earlier report by Ookla confirmed T-Mobile's leading position, ranking it first in median 5G download speeds at 287.14 Mbps. This increase of 29.64 Mbps from previous measurements was attributed to T-Mobile's addition of a 2.5 GHz spectrum.

T-Mobile also led in 5G Net Promoter Scores and 5G Video Quality of Experience metrics, further cementing its status as a top-performing carrier.
