tvcnews.tv 3 days ago

Traders of food items at Ose Okwodu Market in Onitsha, Anambra State have blamed the rising cost of food items in Nigeria on insecurity bedeviling the country.

The traders Stated this when personnel of Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Council (FCCPC) visited the market to ascertain what contributes to the rising cost of food items in the country.

Secretary of the Market Traders Union, Onyejekwe Cyprian said the market is seen as the food basket of Anambra State and beyond, but lately the cost of items in the market has become affordable.

Cyprian attributed this to insecurity and high price on petrol as the major factor, saying that farmers now fear to go to their farms to cultivate crops, and even when they do, they are either abducted when moving crops to urban places to sell, or when coming back.

He appealed to government to end insecurity, with the hope that farmers will return to farm and traders will not be afraid to transport their good back for sale and price of food items will definitely come down.
