Independence Day temps expected near 100, but heat advisory will soon end in D-FW
While Independence Day is expected to bring another high near 100 degrees and a heat advisory, a slight cold front and scattered thunderstorms are expected going into the weekend.
Thursday marks the 12th consecutive heat advisory day in North Texas, a streak that will end by sunset, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. A high temperature of 102 is forecast with a heat index of around 105, said Matt Stalley, a weather service meteorologist. Humidity on Thursday should be slightly lower than Wednesday, with a humidity level of 30% to 35%.
Despite the heat, conditions should be clear and perfect for watching fireworks displays, according to KXAS-TV’s (NBC5) forecast.

Officials encouraged those celebrating the holiday to drink plenty of water, stay in the shade and take breaks from the heat inside an air-conditioned building whenever possible. State officials are also warning of a possible impact on the Gulf Coast from Hurricane Beryl.
“Tomorrow is probably last exceptionally hot day for a little bit,” Stalley said.
A slight cold front should roll in beginning Friday, bringing scattered thunderstorms and cooler temperatures. The slightly cooler temperatures should last through next week, with highs projected in the low-to-mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s to low 80s.
Compared to previous July 4 temperatures, 2024 should be similar to the past two years. In 2023, there was a high of 99 and a low of 74, while 2022 saw a high of 100 and low of 81. Independence Day 2021 had a high of just 89, thanks to some rain in and around the holiday that year.
