Nigeria midfielder Alhassan Ibrahim has secured promotion to the Belgian First Division A with Beerschot, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

They achieved the feat by finishing in pole position in the Challenger Pro League standings with 56 points in 30 matches, two points more than Dender in second place and winners of the second automatic promotion ticket.

Deinze, Lommel, Zulte Waregem, and Patro Eisden followed in third, fourth, fifth, and sixth positions in that particular order, and they will be involved in promotion play-offs.

Ibrahim, who started 12 of 25 appearances for Beerschot during their triumphant campaign, shared his excitement on Instagram on Monday.

“It’s an absolute pleasure; thank you for everything, Beerschot. Together, we made history, stated the former Wikki Tourists player, who will be playing his second season with Beerschot following his transfer from Nacional ahead of the 2022–23 season. He has scored once in 41 appearances for the club.

It was the first major trophy won by the 27-year-old, who also played for Akwa United and Austria Wien.

Close to this was the Nigeria Premier Football League Player of the Month award, given by  NPFL League Bloggers, for April 2017.

Ibrahim represented Nigeria at the U-17 and U-20 levels before being promoted to the senior team, having been capped twice since 2017.

The Purple White Army, as Beerschot are also called, changed their name and logo in 2019.

They played in the second tier for three seasons and played the promotion final each year. Finally, after losing to Cercle Brugge K.S.V. and K.V. Mechelen, they gained promotion to the Belgian First Division A at the end of the 2019–2020 season.

In 2021/22, Beerschot were relegated to the Challenger Pro League after two seasons due to finishing in 18th position.
