The cost of living has significantly gone up, with inflation and high rent forcing people to live a paycheck-to-paycheck lifestyle. The high cost of living has widely affected the prices of groceries, as observed by a Walmart customer–who goes by @sewerlidd on TikTok. The man noticed this when he compared the pricing of a 45-item shopping list from two years ago to the current list and the vast difference in costs since then shocked him. He utilized the "reorder all" option to purchase the same things again and found that the costs had increased by 400%. Many people have also been shocked by how much prices have increased compared to a few years ago. However, some said that when they checked their past orders, the prices hadn't gone up as much.

The man said, "I feel like I'm going to be sick. I just looked through my Walmart history and found an order from two years ago. A whole month's worth of groceries for just me, 45 items, cost $126." He then showed a screenshot from the Walmart app with his order for $126.67. He pointed toward the "reorder all" button, which lets him recreate the same monthly order. "I noticed this 'reorder all' button and wanted to see how much it would cost now," he said, curious to see how much inflation has affected prices. He showed the screen and said, "Now, this order of 45 items for one month would cost $414." Rubbing his eyes in disbelief, he added, "That's four times more. How the f---, how? Like? What?" People in the comments admitted they are also feeling the impact of rising prices.

His shocking video has garnered nearly 2 million views and over 336k likes. Many expressed their surprise and disappointment, saying they are struggling with the increased cost of living. The consensus among viewers is that the cost of everyday items has skyrocketed, leaving many feeling the pinch. @justaw0rm even stated she had to alter her diet to save money, "I used to spend $180 for 2 weeks for my family of four and the dog. I am now spending upwards of $430 and trying to figure out what else I can cut. Sorry kids, you don't get barbecue sauce." @numbskulzmom shared, "Life isn't affordable anymore. I'm not sure how my family of 4 is even eating these days!"

Regardless of who is to blame, the U.S. economy has clearly become worse since 2021, with inflation hitting a 40-year high in June 2022, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. As much as people supported @sewerlidd with the surprising price increase, some people contended that he was exaggerating for internet clout or that his order only contained products that had seen drastic changes in pricing in the past few years. "I just did the same thing. $40 order for Mac n cheese and stuff for sloppy joes. Added it all to the cart just to see and it was $86," said @ahoy.necko.
