Armed police were called to Piccadilly Gardens on Wednesday afternoon (July 3) following reports of a dangerous dog.

Officers were seen in attendance in the city centre at around 3.55pm, as a police van along with armed officers were pictured at the scene responding to the incident.

Onlookers watched on as a TAU van arrived on blue lights. A man, aged in his 20s, was later arrested on suspicion of possessing a dog dangerously out of control and for breaching police bail.

A witness at the scene told the Manchester Evening News: "I was chatting to security at McDonald's, then the next thing this police van turned up on blue lights and the coppers jumped out.

"Armed police turned up, and there was some argument going on between the person with the dog that police were trying to break up. There were a lot of people gathering around."

No injuries were reported in the incident. Further details about the report have not yet been confirmed by police.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called to reports of a dangerous dog in Piccadilly Gardens at around 3.55pm.

"A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of possessing a dog dangerously out of control and breaching police bail."
