OVER THE weekend, social media was abuzzed with two separate reports of alleged carnapping in Buhangin District. Concerned individuals posted about the apparent disappearance of a Honda Civic and a Mitsubishi Mirage, raising alarms among residents.

However, investigations by the Buhangin Police revealed a different story. In both cases, the owners later clarified that the vehicles were not stolen but had been borrowed by family members.

The owner of the Mitsubishi Mirage personally visited the police station to rectify the misinformation spread by a friend’s social media post.

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) urged the public to exercise caution and verify information before sharing it on social media, especially in alleged criminal activities.

“We request everyone to validate information before posting, particularly about alleged crimes, to prevent causing unnecessary fear and panic among Davaoeños,” said Captain  Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson of the DCPO, in an interview on the Madayaw Program aired over Davao City Disaster Radio.

The DCPO emphasized the importance of reporting suspected crimes directly to the police for proper investigation and resolution.
