NUC accredits all take-off academic programmes of CUSTECH

The National Universities Commission, NUC, has given full accreditation for all the take-off academic programmes of Confluence University of Science and Technology, CUSTECH, Osara, Kogi State.

Registrar of the university, Ms. Olufunke Hudson, said in a statement that the full accreditation status highlights the university’s dedication to upholding excellence, adding that the development has positioned CUSTECH among the esteemed institutions renowned for upholding the utmost standards of academic undertakings and quality.

According to her, the accredited programmes include Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering and Information Technology.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Salawu, expressed delight over the feat, stating that the accreditation serves as evidence of the commitment and effort put forth by the staff and students of the institution.

Salawu disclosed that the university was keeping pace with its academic development plans as it has forwarded applications for establishment of six more programmes to NUC for approval which will commence with the newly approved ones in 2024/2025 academic session.

The programmes, which are largely in Medical Sciences, include Medicine, Physiotherapy, and Radiography. Others are Law, Agriculture and Agricultural Engineering. He further disclosed that proposed teaching hospital facility for clinical training is already operational.

On her part, the registrar described the accreditation success as an accomplishment that showcases the institution’s unwavering dedication to excellence and commitment to students with a top tier education.

She also revealed that the NUC has approval the establishment of eight new programmes in addition to the existing ones.

The newly approved programmes are materials and metallurgical engineering, mechatronics engineering, marine engineering and petroleum and gas engineering, anatomy, physiology, nursing science and medical laboratory science.

FG implements effective school programmes in 111 schools nationwide

The Federal Government says it has commenced the implementation of the Universal Basic Education, UBE, Effective Schools Programme in 111 designated schools nationwide.

Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Dr Hamid Bobboyi announced the take-off of the schools at a one-day meeting with States Universal Basic Education Boards, SUBEBs, Coordinating Directors and Head Teachers of UBE Effective Schools, in Abuja.

Represented by UBEC’s Deputy Executive Secretary, Technical. Prof Bala Zakari, Bobboyi noted that Effective Schools were established as part of efforts of the Commission to address the twin challenges of learning crisis and out-of-school children, while also providing Nigerian children at the basic level of education with the tools they need for better learning outcomes and 21st century knowledge acquisition.

The UBEC boss expressed the commission’s commitment towards providing a conducive environment for Nigeria’s school-aged population to acquire functional basic education, noting that Effective Schools would enhance the efficiency of UBE delivery by ensuring that minimum standards are attained and maintained in all educational programmes.

According to him, the Effective School Programme was designed to progressively improve the resources and routines of teaching and learning towards optimizing the potentials of both teachers and learners within the school system.

The UBEC boss added that after a robust engagement with stakeholders, the Commission started the process of actualizing the initiative as a pilot in three schools in each State and the FCT, “thus ushering in a new perspective and practice in learning across 111 schools that were previously designated as UBEC E-learning centers”.

“I am pleased to inform you that we have made significant strides in this direction including the procurement and distribution of instructional materials to all the 111 Effective Schools, provision of tablets and installation of Satellite-Based learning equipment, training of headteachers and teachers in ICT pedagogy, among others.

“These efforts have proved to be very rewarding in laying a solid foundation for the commencement of the implementation of the ESP initiative,” he said.
