Summary

  • Jack Kesy stars in Hellboy: The Crooked Man reboot, set in the 1950s.
  • Fans react negatively to the first trailer, comparing it to a fan-made film.
  • Hellboy: The Crooked Man, based on a comic miniseries, is expected to release later this year.

We finally have our first look at Without Remorse and The Killer star Jack Kesy as the comic book hero, Hellboy, as the first trailer for the upcoming reboot, Hellboy: The Crooked Man, has now been unleashed. The movie comes courtesy of Ketchup Entertainment, and reboots the series following the acclaimed movies from director Guillermo Del Toro and the...less acclaimed 2019 outing starring Stranger Things actor David Harbour.

Following the release of the trailer, which you can check out below, Hellboy fans have quickly taken to social media to share their feelings on what they’ve seen. And those feelings are not so good. “Almost thought this was a fan made film at first glance,” says one reaction, with another questioning the quality of the script and adding, “What the hell is the dialogue in this, “dark things call to dark things.””

After the failure of the 2019 attempt a reboot, fans of the character had hoped that Del Toro and actor Ron Perlman would be given the opportunity to finish their trilogy. Sadly, this is not the case, and those who have longed to see the conclusion have not taken too kindly to this first look at Hellboy: The Crooked Man.

“They'll never top Ron Perlman's Hellboy,” says one fan, with another adding, “I mean, I'm all for another Hellboy film. But if you told me that was from a fan made film, I'd believe you.”

You can check out some more reactions from the Hellboy fandom, both good and decidedly hellish, below.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man Will Land in Theaters Later This Year

Based on the comic-book miniseries of the same name by Mike Mignola and artist Richard Corben, the Hellboy reboot will drop audiences in the 1950s, as Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent find themselves stranded in rural Appalachia. They soon discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy's past: the Crooked Man.

Directed by Brian Taylor (Crank, Happy!), from a screenplay by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden based on The Crooked Man limited series written by Mignola, Hellboy: The Crooked Man stars 12 Strong actor Jack Kesy as the titular Hellboy alongside Adeline Rudolph as Bobbie Jo Song, Jefferson White as Tom Ferrel, Leah McNamara as Effie Kolb, Joseph Marcell as Reverend Watts, Hannah Margetson as Cora Fisher, and Martin Bassindale as the Crooked Man.
