Police have confirmed the arrest of former Deputy Resident City Commissioner for Rubaga Division, Anderson Burora.

Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango said on Tuesday afternoon that Burora was arrested from his home in Kira on Monday night and is being investigated on charges of promoting hate speech.

“Mr. Andreson Burora was arrested on a sanctioned file on charges of hate speech and malicious information under the Computer Misuse Act as amended 2022. He did this using different social media platforms, especially his X handle,” Onyango said.

The Nile Post has learnt that Burora is being investigated by parliamentary police.

The spokesperson for police in Kampala said Burora had on several occasions used his social media platforms to promote hate speech but also share malicious information against several individuals and government entities.

Onyango urged Ugandans to use social media for development and not for hate speech.

The vocal former presidential appointee gained notoriety for his criticism of the government he served, leading to his suspension and indictment earlier this year.

Burora blamed his woes on Speaker Anita Among.
