Through the highs and lows of "The Bear," Syd and Carmy got each other's backs.
The Bear made its triumphant return for season 3. Christopher Storer crafted another amazing season filled with amazing cinematography, a great script, and plenty of surprise guest appearances. But as the show returns to the kitchen, workplace dynamics begin to put a strain on personal relationships.
Many hoped that this season would eventually lead to a love story between the two, but by the looks of how Season 3 ended, it seems like the two might not even be able to maintain a platonic friendship, leading to plenty of reactions.
The show brings us to an interesting point in Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) and Carmy's (Jeremy Allen White) relationship. As Carmy aims to turn The Bear into a Michelin-star restaurant, the tight ship he attempts to run transforms the kitchen into a place of chaos and tension — perhaps, even more than the first season (without anyone getting stabbed in the ass).
Nonetheless, here are some of the best moments between Carmy and Sydney on The Bear.
1. Sydney and Carmy meet for the first time. While Carmy attempts to make sense of the restaurant his brother left for him, Sydney emerges to stage. However, given her impressive resumé and Carmy's culinary background, both seem equally confused about crossing paths at a local sandwich shop.
2. Although not directly conversing with Carmy, Sydney's brief argument with Richie in the Season 1 episode "Hands" showcases her reverence for her fellow Chef. As Richie downplays Carmy's accomplishments at Noma, Sydney leaps to his defense and praises the level of detail needed in fine dining establishments.
3. Sydney's breaking point comes during Season 1's "Review," where she finally quits and gives Carmy a piece of her mind. Perhaps it's not the best display of their camaraderie, but every relationship has its ups and downs.
4. By the end of the Season 1 finale, Sydney emerges (following an apology from Carmy) to find the crew opening cans that Mikey used as a stash spot for cash. Sydney was there to pick up a check, but once she locked eyes with Carmy, they were in sync with plans to realize their vision for a fine dining establishment to the point where they completed each other's thoughts.
5. When Sydney does extra credit to become Camy's sous-chef at The Bear. Though her suggestions seemingly land on deaf ears at first, many of her ideas become critical to forming their dream restaurant. Yes, there were some issues with take-out down the line. Sydney's ideas still proved invaluable to their whole operation, especially regarding labor.
6. While Carmy's relationship with Claire takes his focus away from the restaurant, the heartfelt apology he offers Sydney highlights their relationship on the show. But more than that, it's the words of affirmation that Carmy shares with Sydney in the face of self-doubt that further cements their relationship as colleagues and friends.
7. Then, Carmy gifts Sydney a custom Thom Browne chef's jacket.
8. And when Carmy, Syd, and The Bear staff get ready for their first service.
9. Sydney's sarcastic quips always land. In Season 3, Carmy shares his list of non-negotiables at the restaurant, leading to plenty of pushback from the staff including Sydney, who is already agitated after Carmy adjusted her dishes AND decided to change the menu every single day without consulting her.
10. Carmy praises Sydney's risotta and braised cola short-rib dish but doesn't feel like it's ready to add to the menu.
11. Sydney's inquiry into Carmy's Michelin stars.
At this point, Carmy provides a succinct response to her desire to get a Michelin star. "You're gonna have to care about everything more than anything," he tells her.
