Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has openly welcomed the defamation suits filed against him by Freddie Blay, the former chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and his son, Kwame Blay.

The legal actions are in response to Ablakwa's claims, implicating the Blays in the misappropriation of state property.

Kwame Blay's lawsuit is directed solely at Ablakwa, while Freddie Blay's legal action also names Media General and journalist Johnnie Hughes as co-defendants.

In his legal filing, Kwame Blay emphasizes his separate identity from his brother Kwaw and denies any association with the Polo Beach Club or its related entities.

Kwame Blay refutes Ablakwa's accusations of land theft and fraud involving Loic Devos Jnr, asserting that these baseless claims have caused significant damage to both his business ventures and personal reputation.

Freddie Blay contends that Ablakwa's allegations are driven by malice, especially considering the timing close to the elections and aim to undermine his reputation. He further accuses Media General and Johnnie Hughes of disseminating falsehoods that defame his family.

In a Facebook post dated Monday, July 1, 2024, Ablakwa responded to the legal proceedings with a sense of vindication, stating that seeking court protection does not necessarily equate to justice. He commended Freddie Blay for opting for a legal resolution, expressing relief that the matter is finally being addressed in court after a prolonged period of threats.

"They say better late than never — even though I am yet to be served, this is great news after many weeks of countless threats.

"The battle to reclaim Labadi Beach Hotel’s beachfront just got exciting.

Justice does not always belong to those who are first to seek refuge in the courts — if you doubt this, ask the double identity champion," he wrote.
